Dragon sculpture - Raku fired
handmade with high-fired stoneware clay, and fired in the Japanese-style Raku kiln.
This sculpture has been hand made, and is inspired by a mythical dragon - although some see it as a pig or other creature. He's a cheeky character with little wings on his back and a cute little spike that looks like a goatee under his chin.
He is glazed in a very dark glaze with metallic looking areas around the back and lower parts. His face is glazed in white crackle, and a bright persian blue glaze has been added over the top of it. This means there are some spectacular light bright blue colours, as well as rich midnight blue colours across his form.
Raku firing is a special Japanese-style glaze firing where spectacular colours and crackles can appear in the glazes from the reduced oxygen atmosphere that this type of firing produces.
Sculpture: stoneware clay.
Colour / special effects: bright light blues, and deep midnight blues, and white crackle underneath these on his face.
