Dreams can come true!

...
I can hardly believe where I find myself right now. My husband and I have been preparing to open our own Gallery & Art Hub in Campbell Town (our town).
We're down to it being only 6 weeks away now - we've moved away from months and years!! I guess in the not-too-distant future it will be days... but hey who's counting?
Looking back at the unfolding of my life I am both surprised but also not too surprised to be at this junction in my life.
I've been an entrepreneur - owning and operating my own online business (art leaning) for almost 20yrs.
...
'Being an artist' birthed for me in high school during art class where I was exposed to different techniques, mediums and options. Most of what I do now can be traced back to those simple and naïve days.
I have lived a creative life and became an artist in my own right. I never trained as one but became professional through the selling of my work through my online business.
...
I think why I am most surprised that we are about to open a Gallery is because it has been a dream for so long. Raising my children, working and managing life things made it always feel like a dream that we couldn't afford. It never seemed that it could be real - it remained as a dream.
Events turned for us in mid 2022 when we sold our house in Hobart and purchased outright in Campbell Town. This was also a dream come true and from there new things have sprouted and started.
My artist journey this year has been full of learning and making as much as I can before I moved into this current time of shop renovating and organisation to open. It's been busy as I build relationships with other artists, plan exhibitions and work out everything I can think of that will be needed.
...
As much as it is not great to hear that many other Tasmanian Galleries have been closing recently, I do feel that this is a good time for us to try this and see if it works. We don't have unrealistic expectations and have a back-up plan for the 'worst case scenario'. We will give it our 'all' for the twelve months, and if the interest and sales are there and it is worth our while to continue, we will happily do so.
There is a lot to do, prepare and think about, yet it is also a fun adventure that is already bringing great joy to me in inspiring myself and other Tasmanian artists.
Let's see what happens...
