ANCIENT SASSAFRAS
My favourite place,
My favourite tree,
To soak nature in,
And let things be.
The cleansing waters,
The fresh misty rush,
Carries the expired in me away.
And there, amidst it all – ancient sassafras!
Your mossy green limbs,
Your twisty trunk,
Your roots would be deep and strong, no doubt,
You soak up the running waters,
And withstand them also.
One day I hope to be like you, ancient sassafras,
Growing, ancient, wise and standing strong.
